Recap: Park Rangers vs. Jefferson Panthers

After flying high against the Butte Central Catholic Maroons last Thursday, the Park Rangers came back down to earth. Park took a serious blow against Jefferson on Thursday, falling 74-47. While losing is never fun, Park can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Montana basketball rankings (they are ranked 69th, while Jefferson is ranked 14th).

Jefferson's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was MacKenzie Layng, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and eight assists. That's the first time this season that Layng pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Cameron Toney, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and five steals.

Park now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Jefferson, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 5-1.

After both having extra time off, Park and Beaverhead County will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 7:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024. Beaverhead County and Park are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. Jefferson will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Whitehall/Willow Creek at 6:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024.
