Baseball Recap: Simeon Find Success

Simeon proved they can win big on Friday (they won by ten) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-8 victory over the Lincoln Park Lions. The Wolverines have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Lions, too.

The team relied heavily on Ben Johnson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Cavion Danley was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Simeon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Simeon's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-3. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing 7.67 strikeouts in those games compared to only four in the others. As for Lincoln Park, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Looking ahead, Simeon will venture away from home to square off against Von Steuben at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Von Steuben's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Simeon's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Lincoln Park, they will host Lindblom at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
