Basketball Game Preview: American Prep WV Eagles vs. Vanguard Academy Knights

The American Prep WV Eagles will take on the Vanguard Academy Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: American Prep WV has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Vanguard Academy will arrive with four straight victories.

Last Monday, American Prep WV took a blow against Logan, falling 46-9.

Vanguard Academy's win came from a few key players American Prep WV will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Megan Young, who posted six points along with ten blocks and four steals. She has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last eight times she's played. Amanda Gustafson was another key player, putting up seven points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Vanguard Academy pushed their record up to 6-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 25 points. As for American Prep WV, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-11.

American Prep WV lost to Vanguard Academy at home by a decisive 42-23 margin in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Vanguard Academy's Adie Jenkins, who scored 25 points.
