Recap: Edgewood Red Wolves vs. Merritt Island Christian Cougars
After flying high against the West Shore Wildcats on Thursday, the Edgewood Red Wolves came back down to earth. Edgewood took a 42-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of Merritt Island Christian on Friday. Edgewood was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Merritt Island Christian apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.
When it comes to explaining why Edgewood lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ada Howarter. Despite the final result, she scored 5 points along with 10 rebounds and 4 steals. Howarter is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Edgewood struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Merritt Island Christian racked up 11.
Merritt Island Christian's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gloria Moses, who scored 10 points. Another player making a difference was Keri Shea, who scored 11 points.
Edgewood has fallen quite a ways from their 17-3 record last season and are now at 1-2. As for Merritt Island Christian, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.
Edgewood will head out on the road to face off against Bayside at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Merritt Island Christian, they will be playing at home against Calvary Chapel Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
