Baseball Game Preview: Clopton Hawks vs. Silex Owls

Clopton is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Thursday. They will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Silex Owls at 5:00 p.m. Clopton will be strutting in after a victory while Silex will be coming in after a loss.

Clopton is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Community. Clopton blew past Community 13-7 on Tuesday. The Hawks haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Adam Lindsay and Tucker Salmons did most of the damage at the plate: Lindsay scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances, while Salmons scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of James Matheny, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Silex took on Veritas Christian Academy on Tuesday. Silex came up short against Veritas Christian Academy, falling 15-9.

Chase Vehige was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Vehige was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Vehige wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Joe Dameron, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Dameron is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another was Chase Mullen, who scored two runs while going 2-for-5.
