Basketball Game Preview: St. Albans Red Dragons vs. Nitro Wildcats

St. Albans and Nitro are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2016, but not for long. The St. Albans Red Dragons will square off against the Nitro Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. St. Albans is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.1 points per game this season.

St. Albans is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: Charleston Catholic, who was ranked 14th at the time (St. Albans was ranked 16th). St. Albans walked away with a 48-38 victory over Charleston Catholic on Tuesday.

St. Albans' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jaycee Elzy, who posted 17 points. What's more, Elzy also posted a 57% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2024. Triniti Austin-Russell was another key player, putting up ten points along with five boards and five steals.

Meanwhile, Nitro was fully in charge on Wednesday, breezing past Hoover 68-41. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 20 points or more this season.

Nitro's win bumped their record up to 17-4. As for St. Albans, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.
