Basketball Recap: Gridley's Loss Ends Nine-Game Winning Streak on the Road

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Gridley can now relate to. They fell just short of the University Prep Panthers by a score of 70-67 on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 52-34 last Saturday.

Despite the loss, Gridley still got an impressive performance from Luis Murillo, who went 10-for-15 on his way to 23 points and three steals. What's more, Murillo also posted a 67% field goal percentage, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2023. Gus Stogsdill was another key player, shooting 56% from the field to rack up 12 points and six boards.

University Prep's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Trey Pringle led the charge by going 6-for-14 en route to 20 points along with six assists and five steals. Pringle is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in each of the last ten games he's played. Another player making a difference was Adam Gire, who shot 63% from the field on his way to 12 points and eight rebounds.

Gridley's defeat ended a nine-game streak of away wins and brought them to 25-6. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.8 points over those games. As for University Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-8 record this season.

Gridley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for University Prep, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 65-61 loss against Fortune Early College on the 8th.
