Baseball Recap: Midway Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

Midway extended their postseason success on Tuesday against South Lenoir. They put the hurt on the Blue Devils with a sharp 8-1 victory. Considering the Raiders have won nine matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Tanner Williams made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Wyatt Herring was excellent, going 2-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Scott, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base.

Midway was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Lenoir only posted a batting average of .250.

The win (which was Midway's fifth in a row) raised their record to 23-7. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for South Lenoir, the defeat snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 21-4 record.

Midway will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Blue Devils: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
