Basketball Game Preview: Douglas Bulldogs vs. Casa Grande Cougars

The Douglas Bulldogs are taking a road trip to face off against the Casa Grande Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Douglas' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.

Douglas saw some tournament action on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Tombstone 59-28. The 59-point effort marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Douglas' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Francia Rubio, who went 7 for 10 on her way to 14 points in addition to five steals and five blocks, and Scarlette Ruiz, who went 5 for 9 on her way to 13 points and six steals. Ruiz is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 14 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Keyra Espinosa, who posted eight points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Casa Grande came up short against Flowing Wells on Friday, falling 55-33. The defeat continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Caballeros: they've now lost five in a row.

Douglas pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 20.3 points per game. As for Casa Grande, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.

Douglas took a serious blow against Casa Grande in their previous matchup back in January of 2016, falling 53-26. Can Douglas avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
