Baseball Recap: St. Ignatius Wins High-Profile Match Against Mason

St. Ignatius faced Mason in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Wildcats skirted past the Comets 3-2. The Wildcats have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Comets, too.

Brandon Rose spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brett Krugman, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Merheb, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one double.

The win made it two in a row for St. Ignatius and bumps their season record up to 9-4. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Mason, with the defeat, they broke their seven-game winning streak and moved their record to 18-3.

Looking ahead, St. Ignatius is taking a road trip to challenge Mentor at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mason, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Centerville at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
