Volleyball Recap: Alcorn Central Takes a Loss

After flying high against Booneville on Tuesday, Alcorn Central came back down to earth. The Bears came up short against Lake Cormorant on Thursday, falling 3-0. The Bears haven't had much luck with Lake Cormorant recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

While Alcorn Central was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Lake Cormorant's winning margin in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-11, 25-15, 25-19.

Mylee Davis paced Alcorn Central's offense, picking up ten kills. Davis got some help from Stella Hollis and her 11 assists. Addison Lutz controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Leading Lake Cormorant to victory were Emily Huerta and Kayla Gonzalez. Huerta had 19 digs and two aces, while Gonzalez had five digs and three aces. What's more, Gonzalez racked up 17 assists, the most she's had over her last ten matches.

Alcorn Central's loss dropped their record down to 20-14-1. As for Lake Cormorant, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 30-8.

Alcorn Central didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 victory against Holly Springs on the 4th. As for Lake Cormorant, they have also already played their next contest, a 3-0 win against Greenville on the 7th.
