Baseball Game Preview: Pierson Whalers vs. Southampton Mariners

For the second straight game, Pierson will face off against Southampton. The Whalers will face off against the Mariners at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

While Pierson's win against Southampton wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Whalers had just enough and edged out the Mariners 4-3. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Whalers as it put an end to their six-game losing streak.

Pierson's win was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Iulo, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. What's more, Iulo posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

Southampton is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5. As for Pierson, their victory bumped their record up to 3-6.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Pierson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Southampton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.1 strikeouts.
