Softball Recap: Bishop Verot Takes a Loss

Bishop Verot dropped their record down to 15-7 on Saturday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Doral Academy Firebirds, falling 11-2. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Vikings, who until this game were averaging 3.5 runs allowed.

McKenna Robbins made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double.

As for Doral Academy, their win was their 24th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 24-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games.

On Doral Academy's side, Meagan Villazon made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Villazon has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Anabela Abdullah, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Zoey Abdullah, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.

As of now, neither Bishop Verot nor Doral Academy have any future games scheduled.
