Softball Recap: Sumner Gets the Win

Sumner came out on top against Plant City on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run third inning. The Stingrays took their game against the Raiders 7-3. The victory continues a trend for the Stingrays in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now won eight in a row.

Aliyanis Stubbs spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Victoria Rudolph was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Ava Cater also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Sumner hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Plant City struck out eight times.

Sumner's record now sits at 4-2. As for Plant City, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Sumner will square off against Sarasota at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Plant City, they will take on Durant at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so the Raiders' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
