Basketball Recap: Calvert Gets the Win

Calvert's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They snuck past the Patuxent Panthers with a 70-64 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 49-47 back in December of 2024.

Patuxent lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Shane Lawrernce, who went 9-for-19 to rack up 24 points and seven boards. What's more, he also posted a 47% field goal percentage, which is the highest he's achieved since back in November of 2024. Kamauri Jones was another key player, going 8-for-19 en route to 21 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Calvert's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-13 and their overall record up to 2-20-1. As for Patuxent, their defeat was their 18th straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-18.

Calvert and Patuxent could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Maryland Rankings. Calvert (ranked 277th) will meet McDonough (ranked 128th) at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Calvert has now lost 15 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since December 19. Similarly, Patuxent will take on Huntingtown at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday down 155 places (278 vs. 123).
