Baseball Recap: Nantucket Whalers vs. Martha's Vineyard Regional Vineyarders
Nantucket had lost three straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 6-13 to make it four. They lost 11-0 to the Martha's Vineyard Regional Vineyarders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vineyarders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 on Saturday.
As for Martha's Vineyard Regional, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
For Martha's Vineyard Regional's part, the result came thanks to Josh Salop's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Hunter Johnson and Joe Mediros did most of the damage at the plate: Johnson went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Mediros went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits Mediros has posted since back in April. Matt Macmillan was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
