Baseball Game Preview: South Sumter Raiders vs. Freeport Bulldogs

The South Sumter Raiders will face off against the Freeport Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Freeport will be up against a hot South Sumter team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. South Sumter blew past Belleview 13-3 on Friday.

South Sumter got a great performance from Jackson Gill as he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. The dominant performance gave Gill a new career-high in strikeouts.

At the plate, Malakhi Boone was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Ismael Rodriguez, who scored two runs while going 4-for-4.

Meanwhile, Freeport waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They never let the Wildcats get on the board and left with a 6-0 victory.

The team relied heavily on Niles King III, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Ryan Darrow was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Freeport's win bumped their record up to 11-4. As for South Sumter, their victory bumped their record up to 9-2.

Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. South Sumter has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .468. However, it's not like Freeport struggles in that department as they've averaged .437. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
