Softball Recap: Devine's Run of Four Straight Victories Now Over

If Devine was feeling good fresh off their 13-0 takedown of Nixon-Smiley on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Devine Warhorses fell just short of the Edinburg North Cougars by a score of 5-4 on Friday. The Warhorses were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Maddy Hester made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

Even though they lost, Devine was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in five consecutive games.

Devine moved to 8-3 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Edinburg North, their record now sits at 11-4-1.

Coming up, Devine will be playing at home against Lockhart at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Edinburg North, they will be taking part in a tournament against Pearsall at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Pearsall's pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so Edinburg North's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
