Football Preview: Granite Hills Eagles vs. Steele Canyon Cougars

The Granite Hills Eagles have the luxury of staying home for another week and will welcome the Steele Canyon Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.

Last Monday, Granite Hills came up short against Grossmont and fell 33-20. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 256th, while the Foothillers are ranked 51st).

Granite Hills' loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Sophia Argeres, who picked up 70 receiving yards and three touchdowns, and Taylor Nash, who threw for 282 yards and three touchdowns. Nash is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as she's now passed for three or more in the last three games she's played. A healthy portion of Nash's aerial production (96 yards to be exact) also went to Illiana Cruse.

Meanwhile, Steele Canyon slipped by Lincoln 28-27 on Saturday.

Ily (I-Lee) Barclay was her usual excellent self, picking up 98 receiving yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for 67 yards and a touchdown. That's the most rushing yards she has posted since back in August. Another player making a difference was Kaliani Ewing, who gained 115 total yards and a touchdown.

Granite Hills' defeat dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Steele Canyon, their win bumped their record up to 9-10.

Granite Hills skirted past Steele Canyon 20-18 in their previous matchup back in October. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Ewing, who rushed for 158 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Granite Hills still be able to contain Ewing? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
