Recap: Western Pioneers vs. Orange Vista Coyotes
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Western Pioneers, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They received a tough blow on Friday as they fell 63-46 to the Coyotes. Western's loss signaled the end of their 11-game winning streak.
Western's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Anthony Luna, who threw for 384 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. Luna hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for eight straight games. Desmin Joshway-fairley also deserves a shout-out for his three touchdowns.
It was another big night for Sire Gaines, who rushed for 230 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 12.8 yards per carry for Orange Vista. Gaines' longest rush was for an incredible 81 yards. Jesse Anderson was another major influence, as he rushed for 87 yards and ran in a TD.
Western's loss dropped their record down to 11-2. As for Orange Vista, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3.
Western does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Orange Vista will head out on the road to face off against Newbury Park at 7:00 p.m. on November 25th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Newbury Park is ranked 91st, while Orange Vista is ranked 69th).
