Preview: Sabinal Yellowjackets vs. Rocksprings Angoras
The Sabinal Yellowjackets will head out on the road to face off against the Rocksprings Angoras at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Sabinal made easy work of Center Point and carried off a 28-6 victory. With Sabinal ahead 28-0 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Israel Gonzales continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 183 yards while picking up 10.2 yards per carry. Gonzales' longest rush was for an incredible 92 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Sergio Vasquez, who threw for 95 yards and two touchdowns on only eight passes.
Meanwhile, after only 12 points in their last matchup, Rocksprings made sure to put some points up on the board against La Pryor on Friday. Rocksprings claimed a resounding 40-7 victory over La Pryor on the road.
Sabinal's victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 4-4. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely Center Point, La Pryor, and Charlotte. As for Rocksprings, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.
Sabinal didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Rocksprings when the teams last played back in November of 2022, but they still walked away with a 20-14 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sabinal since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
