Softball Recap: Picayune Find Success

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Picayune ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Pascagoula Panthers 9-8. The Maroon Tide haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Calyn Groom and Brooke Rouse did most of the damage at the plate: Groom went 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while Rouse went 3-for-4 with two runs and one triple. Those three hits gave Rouse a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lily Moreaux, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Picayune's victory bumped their record up to 7-13. As for Pascagoula, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Picayune will welcome Long Beach at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Pascagoula, they will face off against Hancock at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hawks have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
