Basketball Recap: Covington Owls vs. Meridian Yellowjackets
After flying high against Penelope last Saturday, Covington came back down to earth. The Covington Owls were just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 58-57 to the Meridian Yellowjackets. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (55), the Owls still had to take the loss.
Meridian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Josh Nunez out in front who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Nunez has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Guillermo Ortiz was another key player, putting up 11 points along with three steals and three blocks.
Covington's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 5-3. As for Meridian, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.
While Covington had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.
