Basketball Game Preview: South Christian Sailors vs. Catholic Central Cougars

South Christian hasn't had much luck against Catholic Central recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The South Christian Sailors will take on the Catholic Central Cougars at 7:30 p.m. South Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully Catholic Central likes a good challenge.

South Christian will head into Friday's matchup on the come-up: they were handed a heart-breaking two-point loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Wayland on Friday. South Christian blew past Wayland, posting a 77-35 win. Given the Sailors' advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 47th, while the Wildcats are ranked 302nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Catholic Central suffered their closest defeat since December 9, 2023 on Saturday. They fell just short of King by a score of 36-33. The contest marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

South Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.9 points per game. As for Catholic Central, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-4.

South Christian came up short against Catholic Central in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 58-46. Can South Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
