Recap: Mineral County Serpents vs. Pyramid Lake Lakers

The Mineral County Serpents's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They were dealt a 71-6 defeat at the hands of Pyramid Lake. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Mineral County has scored all season.

Mineral County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayona Kimmins, who scored two points along with five rebounds and two steals. Kimmins has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Caitlynn Sanchez was another key contributor, scoring two points along with two steals.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Mineral County struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Pyramid Lake racked up 24 assists.

Pyramid Lake got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kaitlin Mandell out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Mandell hasn't dropped below two steals for 15 straight games. Another player making a difference was Olivia Lara, who scored 16 points along with five assists and three steals.

Mineral County's loss dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Pyramid Lake, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 14-4.

Mineral County won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Sage Ridge at 4:00 p.m. on January 20th. Hopefully Sage Ridge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine last Wednesday. Pyramid Lake won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Coleville at 1:30 p.m. on January 20th. Hopefully Coleville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 32 last Monday.
