High school volleyball rankings: Three MaxPreps Top 25 teams grab state titles over the weekend

No. 4 Roncalli wins Indiana Class 3A crown while No. 7 Divine Savior Holy Angels three-peats in Wisconsin and No. 20 Winter Park grabs Florida Class 7A banner.

Three teams in the MaxPreps Top 25 high school volleyball rankings captured state titles over the weekend.

In Indiana, No. 4 Roncalli (Indianapolis) capped its perfect season with a sweep of Angola in Class 3A. Oregon commit Logan Bell led the way with 14 kills, junior Lydia Stahley added 12 and setter Addie Haberthy had 32 assists. The Royals didn't lose a set after Sept. 18 on the way to a 35-0 record.

No. 6 Divine Savior Holy Angels (Milwaukee) won its third straight Division 1 crown in Wisconsin with a 3-1 win over Hamilton. Madison Quest had 18 kills in the championship match while Addison Buckner chipped in 13. Olivia Durst had 28 digs and Jordan Czajkowski dished up 22 assists for the Dashers.

No. 20 Winter Park grabbed the Class 7A banner in Florida with a thrilling five-set victory, coming back from down 2-1 to win 16-14 in the fifth. Senior setter Tyler Peluso had 56 assists while junior hitters Isa Umpierre had 18 kills and Sophia Stallworth and Amelia Mancino each chipped in 15.



The state brackets in California came out Sunday. San Diego Section Open Division champion and No. 8 Cathedral Catholic (San Diego) received the top seed in the Southern California Open Division regional over No. 2 Mater Dei (Santa Ana), the Southern Section champions.

Cathedral Catholic beat Mater Dei 2-1 in September but the Monarchs were without sophomore hitter Westley Matavao.

Six of the eight teams in the Southern California Open Division regional bracket are nationally ranked. Los Alamitos (Calif.) and Torrey Pines (San Diego) are the two unranked teams in the bracket but made appearances in the MaxPreps Top 25 earlier this season.

The Bobcats opened the Class 6A Division 2 playoffs with a pair of sweeps. Up next is Plano West (Plano) on Nov. 12.

Layli Ostovar and Westley Matavao each had 12 kills in a sweep of No. 9 Sierra Canyon in the Southern Section Open Division final. Sam Capinpin had 21 assists and Ayva Ostovar added 15. The Monarchs open their quest for back-to-back CIF Open Division titles with on Nov. 13 with Torrey Pines (San Diego).

Macaria Spears had 18 kills and Taylor Clarke added 11 in a sweep of Ursuline Academy (Dallas) in the quarterfinals of the TAPPS Class 6A bracket. The Lions draw 40-8 John Paul II (Plano) on Nov. 15 in the semifinals.

The Royals had a 97-5 set differential in winning the Class 3A title.

After sweeping New Trier (Winnetka) in the Class 4A Super-Sectionals, the Redwings play Huntley on Nov. 15. A potential matchup with No. 21 Marist is possible in the final. Benet has lost just three sets all season.

The Dashers are 137-8 during their three-year title streak.

Sophomore Jojo Wilson led the Dons with 10 kills while Madyson McCarthy added nine and Sophia Johnson and Mae Kordas each had eight in the sweep of Torrey Pines in the San Diego Section Open championship. The Dons open SoCal play with eighth-seed Los Alamitos on Nov. 13.

Eva Jeffries had seven kills and seven digs for the Trailblazers in their loss to No. 2 Mater Dei in the Southern Section final. The Trailblazers host No. 11 Mira Costa on Nov. 13.

The Sailors were idle last week and battle No. 19 Redondo Union on Nov. 13 in the CIF Open Division playoffs.

Junior Audrey Flanagan, who has 478 kills on the season, leads the Mustangs against No. 9 Sierra Canyon.

The quest for back-to-back titles saw the Leopards beat Hallsville 3-0 and Lone Star (Frisco) 3-1 in the opening rounds of the Class 5A Division 2 bracket. They tangle with Wilson (Dallas) on Nov. 12 in the regional semifinals.

Tessa Larkin had 13 kills as the top-seeded Gators opened the Class 6A postseason with a sweep of Valley Vista (Surprise). Up next is Queen Creek on Nov. 12.

A Monday victory over Plano East moved the Indians into the Class 6A Division 1 regional finals against the winner of Eastlake (El Paso) and Allen.

Take on Northville in the Division 1 regional semifinals Nov. 12.

A meeting with Douglas (Elder) is the opening match in the Class AA postseason for the Tigers.

Behind MaxPreps National Player of the Year finalist Suliane Davis, the Panthers take on Tascosa (Amarillo) on Nov. 12 in a Class 5A Division 1 regional semifinal.

Senior Devyn Wiest had 375 kills this season and leads the Eagles into the second round of the Class 6A playoffs against Hamilton (Chandler) on Nov. 12.
