Softball Recap: Chester Picks Up Fifth Straight Win on the Road

Chester lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Zeigler-Royalton, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's game. The Yellowjackets were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over the Tornadoes on Friday. The Yellowjackets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.

Maggie Caby and Lexie Mott made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Caby pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Mott pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Caby has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Caby went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Mott went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Caby has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Elaina Lutman was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one triple. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Marlie Caby, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Chester always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .611. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Chester pushed their record up to 16-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Zeigler-Royalton, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 13 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-16 record this season.

Chester will be taking part in a tournament against Richland County at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Zeigler-Royalton has already played their next game (against Carlisle County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
