Basketball Game Preview: High Island Cardinals vs. Spurger Pirates

High Island is 1-9 against Spurger since February of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The High Island Cardinals will be playing at home against the Spurger Pirates at 6:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

High Island is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Tuesday. They took a 58-41 bruising from Hull-Daisetta.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Spurger's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They were beaten by Brookeland 94-54. The Pirates were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 52-21.

Defeat or not, Spurger got some senior leadership from Landon Heim and Kade Ford. Heim posted 16 points, while Ford earned 13 points.

Spurger's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-8. As for High Island, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-23.

High Island took a serious blow against Spurger in their previous meeting back in January, falling 80-23. That match was all but decided by halftime, at which point High Island was down 33-12.
