Baseball Recap: Albuquerque Academy Takes Down Ranked Hope Christian

Albuquerque Academy faced Hope Christian in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Chargers had just enough and edged out the Huskies 3-1. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 2-0 on April 4th.

EJ Gallardo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Andrew Olson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run was his first of the season.

Albuquerque Academy pushed their record up to 14-9 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Hope Christian, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Albuquerque Academy will head out to square off against Del Norte at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.22 runs per game on average), something the Chargers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hope Christian, they will venture away from home to take on Bernalillo at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Huskies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
