Basketball Recap: Berry Comes Up Short

Berry was the 63-47 winner over Olympic when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Berry Cardinals took a 48-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Olympic Trojans on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 241st, while the Trojans are ranked 95th).

When it comes to explaining why Berry lost, don't look at Jkhai McManus-Wade. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards. The match was McManus-Wade's fifth in a row with at least 16 points. Kentrell Ellis was another key player, putting up four points in addition to six rebounds and five assists.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Olympic to victory, but perhaps none more so than De'Angelo Hall, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Eddie Cota, who went 5-for-9 on his way to 12 points.

Berry's loss dropped their record down to 9-15. As for Olympic, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 16-7.

Berry wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 67-61 win against Ardrey Kell on the 18th. As for Olympic, they have also already played their next contest, a 61-59 victory against Palisades on the 18th.
