Football Game Preview: Belvidere Bucs vs. Hononegah Indians + How To Watch

Belvidere hasn't had much luck against Hononegah recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Bucs will challenge the Indians at 7:15 p.m. Belvidere has given up an average of 25.8 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Belvidere will bounce into Friday's matchup after beating Rockford Auburn, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Bucs had just enough and edged out the Knights 39-36. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Bucs considering their 12-point performance the contest before.

Nic Alvarez was his usual excellent self, rushing for 217 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 9.0 yards per carry. Those 217 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Mario Beasley was in the mix too, providing Belvidere with one score.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Belvidere was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 264 rushing yards. They are 3-1 when they've run for more than 200 yards.

Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 14-14 at halftime, Hononegah was not quite Belvidere North's equal in the second half on Friday. They fell just short of the Blue Thunder by a score of 27-24.

Belvidere will need to focus on slowing down Drew Shockley, one of several Hononegah players who made an impact when they last played. He rushed for 67 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 119 yards and one TD. Caleb Parker was another key player, picking up 107 receiving yards and one score.

Belvidere's victory bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Hononegah, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.

Friday's game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Alvarez and Tyler Banker. Alvarez just won't slow down this season and has run in 7 touchdowns while averaging 98.9 rushing yards per game. Banker has been a dominant force too and has averaged 69.5 rushing yards per game.

Belvidere was dealt a bruising 44-16 defeat at the hands of Hononegah in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Bucs were down 44-8.
