Preview: Riverdale Warriors vs. Marshall County Tigers
After three games on the road, Riverdale is heading back home. They will be home for the holidays to greet the Marshall County Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Last Tuesday, Riverdale lost to Franklin County on the road by a decisive 49-34 margin. Riverdale has struggled against Franklin County recently, as their match on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Gray Turek put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored eight points along with six rebounds. Turek is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Rashad Mitchell was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought match, but Marshall County had to settle for a 54-51 defeat against Fairview on Monday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Marshall County has scored all season.
Marshall County's loss came about despite a quality game from Jamahl Gentry, who scored 18 points along with six assists and six rebounds. The game was Gentry's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Aja Jones, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Riverdale's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 4-5. As for Marshall County, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-2.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Riverdale have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 28.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Marshall County struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 24.7 rebounds per game.
