Basketball Recap: Neuse Charter Extends Home Winning Streak to Four

Neuse Charter had won four straight at home, but on Friday they bumped up to 4-1 to make it five. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Falls Lake Firebirds 86-84. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cougars have posted since January 29th.

Jeremiah Edwards continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double with 39 points and ten rebounds. His big performance that evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least 22 points. Another player making a difference was Klayton Tew, who posted 16 points along with eight assists and seven boards.

Neuse Charter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in seven consecutive games dating back to last season.

As for Falls Lake, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (60), they still had to take the loss.

Several Firebirds players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Dalton Parker, who shot 50% from the field to rack up 25 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Camden Cooke, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 13 boards.

Looking ahead, Neuse Charter will challenge Wayne Preparatory Academy at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Falls Lake, they have already played their next contest, a 53-49 loss against Research Triangle on the 24th.
