Softball Game Preview: Valmeyer Pirates vs. Okawville Rockets

The Valmeyer Pirates will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Okawville Rockets at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Valmeyer is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Red Bud on Thursday. They lost 17-2 to the Musketeers. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Pirates have suffered against the Musketeers since May 9, 2018.

Valmeyer saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ally Coats, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.

Meanwhile, Okawville suffered their closest loss since April 16, 2024 on Monday. They fell just short of Mater Dei by a score of 8-6. The defeat continues a trend for the Rockets in their meetings with the Knights: they've now lost six in a row.

Kenley Hackstadt made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Jaycie Buss, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Okawville's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Valmeyer, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.
