Baseball Recap: Winchester Thurston Wins Going Away Against St. Joseph

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Keystone Oaks, Winchester Thurston was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They were the clear victors by an 18-8 margin over the St. Joseph Spartans. Winchester Thurston's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Lucas Picher was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

In other batting news, Winchester Thurston got a massive performance out of Kaelin Leimer, who went 3-for-6 with four runs, two stolen bases, and five RBI. Leimer is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Sam Hammons, who scored three runs and stole seven bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Winchester Thurston always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .565. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Joseph only posted an OBP of .344.

Winchester Thurston's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for St. Joseph, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Winchester Thurston will have a chance to go back-to-back against St. Joseph: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
