Baseball Recap: Yuma Drops Season-High Score on Holyoke

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Yuma). Everything went their way against the Holyoke Dragons on Saturday as they made off with a 20-2 win. For the Outlaws, this counts as revenge for the 7-2 victory the Dragons walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Alex Pensado and Brodie Kallweit made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Pensado tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Kallweit tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Pensado a new career-high in strikeouts (three). At bat, Pensado went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Kallweit went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Eric Wario looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

Back at the plate, Stevie Seward was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Marvin Duarte, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

Yuma was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Holyoke only posted a batting average of .167.

Yuma is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Holyoke, they are on a 17-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-16.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Yuma beat the Dragons by a score of 16-0 later that day.
