Basketball Recap: Bianca Berbick's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Excel Christian Academy over Jordan Christian Prep

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Excel Christian Academy can now relate to. They took a 69-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jordan Christian Prep Seahawks on Monday. The Spartans have struggled against the Seahawks recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.

Excel Christian Academy's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bianca Berbick, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and 17 boards. Berbick is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down 11 or more in each of the last four games she's played. Aysia Mertz was another key player, putting up 19 points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Excel Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 28 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in seven consecutive matches.

Nana John Soumah was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds for Jordan Christian Prep. Those 14 boards gave John Soumah a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Natasha Durand-McClain, who posted six points in addition to six assists and three steals.

Excel Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 13-12. As for Jordan Christian Prep, their win bumped their record up to 15-10.

Excel Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Jordan Christian Prep, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 82-38 loss against Central Pointe Christian Academy on the 18th.
