Volleyball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is Mattoon's Fifth in Last Six Outings

Mattoon won the last time they faced Charleston and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Greenwave walked away with a 2-0 win over the Trojans.

While Mattoon won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the second set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-22.

Zion Johnson paced Mattoon's offense, picking up 11 kills. Johnson got some help from Khloe Hall and her 24 assists. Brooke Jobe controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.

Mattoon has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-13 record this season. As for Charleston, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-18.

Mattoon and Charleston could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Greenwave (ranked 378th) will meet Mahomet-Seymour (ranked 56th) at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Charleston will face off against Mt. Zion at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (558 vs. 158).
