Baseball Recap: Mt. Vernon Comes Up Short

If Mt. Vernon was feeling good fresh off their 13-3 takedown of Carbondale last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Rams took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Waterloo Bulldogs on Tuesday. The Rams were not able to make up for their defeat to the Bulldogs from their previous meeting back in April of 2023.

Alex Kiefer was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Ty Pierce was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.

Mt. Vernon's loss dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Waterloo, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mt. Vernon will welcome Breese Central at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Rams' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Waterloo, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Triad at 4:30 p.m. The Knights will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something the Bulldogs surely won't give up without a fight.
