Football Game Preview: Gainesville Hurricanes vs. Buchholz Bobcats

Gainesville hasn't had much luck against Buchholz recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Hurricanes will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Bobcats at 7:30 p.m.

Last Friday, Gainesville came up short against Forest and fell 24-13.

Meanwhile, Buchholz came tearing into Friday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16 points), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Panthers 27-7.

Buchholz's win came from a few key players Gainesville will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Andrew Whittemore, who rushed for 88 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also threw for 182 yards while completing 71.4% of his passes. Those 88 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Josh Menefee, who rushed for 102 yards and one TD on only 11 carries.

Gainesville now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Buchholz, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.

Gainesville was taken down by Buchholz 52-7 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Hurricanes were down 35-7.
