Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask HEM). They blew past the Guernsey-Sunrise Vikings, posting a 95-55 victory. The win was some much needed relief for the Miners as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.
A big part of HEM's victory came down to the chemistry between Cade Weatherford and his top target Naythen Atencio. Weatherford threw for 124 yards and three touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes while Atencio picked up 119 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Those 124 passing yards gave Weatherford a new career-high. Hunter Widdison got in on the action too, returning a kick for a touchdown.
HEM's defensive line made their presence known, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Atencio with two sacks. Samuel Ramirez was another major factor on D, making 17 total tackles (1.0 for loss).
Special teams was a major factor in the game for HEM, racking up 15 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Widdison, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
HEM picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 3-5. As for Guernsey-Sunrise, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
