Baseball Recap: Columbia's Losing Streak Snapped at Seven Games

Columbia had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They were the clear victors by a 15-4 margin over the Kalama Chinooks on Tuesday. With that win, the Bruins brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

Jaden Wang made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. Wang was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Wyatt Stelma and Brody Landgren did most of the damage at the plate: Stelma went 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Landgren went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Columbia is 2-1 when Stelma posts three or more RBI, but 2-8 otherwise. Seth White also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Columbia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .611. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.

Columbia's victory bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Kalama, they dropped their record down to 1-14 with the defeat, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Columbia will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Chinooks: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
