Softball Recap: Ramona Convent Takes a Loss

Ramona Convent fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against St. Monica on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mariners by a score of 8-7. While the Tigers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Mariners 5-0 in the first period.

Ramona Convent got a massive performance out of Julianna Ortiz, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Abigail Vazquez was another key player, going 1-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two RBI.

Ramona Convent has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That lines up perfectly with their 5-15 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for St. Monica, their record now sits at 7-5.

Looking ahead, Ramona Convent will host La Salle at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lancers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for St. Monica, they are taking a road trip to take on Leuzinger at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Mariners' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Olympians have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season.
