Basketball Game Preview: Latta Vikings vs. Fairmont Golden Tornadoes

The Latta Vikings will square off against the Fairmont Golden Tornadoes at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are still undefeated (Latta has five wins , while Fairmont has four).

Last Tuesday, Latta strolled past Cheraw with points to spare, taking the game 54-39. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while the Braves are ranked 69th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Kaliya Herman was her usual excellent self, putting up 21 points in addition to seven rebounds and six assists. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Latta's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kardae Mcfadden, who posted 12 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.

Meanwhile, Fairmont didn't have too much trouble with E.E. Smith on Thursday as they won 46-28.

Latta pushed their record up to 5-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.2 points per game. As for Fairmont, their victory bumped their record up to 4-0.
