Coatesville and Avon Grove are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Red Raiders will square off against the Red Devils at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Coatesville is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.
Coatesville barely beat East the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Red Raiders blew past the Vikings 7-0 on Friday. The Red Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.
Meanwhile, Avon Grove beat Kennett 11-8 on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Red Devils in their matchups with the Blue Demons: they've now won four in a row.
Avon Grove got a great performance from Devin Rinker as he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits.
At the plate, Myles Raymond was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. What's more, he posted three hits, the most he's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Logan Nelson, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Avon Grove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive games.
Avon Grove's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-6. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Coatesville, their record is now 13-2.
Coatesville was able to grind out a solid win over Avon Grove in their previous matchup back in March, winning 4-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Raiders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
