Baseball Recap: Sparta Comes Up Short

Sparta was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Ash Grove Pirates. That's two games in a row now that the Trojans have lost by exactly two runs.

Sparta saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brendan Brewer, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run. That triple was Brewer's first of the season.

Sparta now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Ash Grove, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sparta will square off against Bradleyville at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.75 runs per game on average), something the Trojans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Ash Grove, they will take on Diamond at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Wildcats will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Pirates surely won't give up without a fight.
