Baseball Game Preview: Leonard Lancers vs. Dr. Joaquin Garcia Bulldogs

The Leonard Lancers will square off against the Dr. Joaquin Garcia Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses apiece.

Leonard fell victim to Wellington and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 6-0 to the Wolverines. The match marked the first time this year in which the Lancers were not able to get on the board.

Leonard saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shawn Lopez, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double. Lopez is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's stole at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Guillermo Vazquez also deserves some recognition as he stole his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Dr. Joaquin Garcia fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Palm Beach Central on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Broncos by a score of 4-3.

Dr. Joaquin Garcia also got a good showing from Kyle Hirsch, who pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits.

Dr. Joaquin Garcia's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Leonard, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Leonard's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. Leonard has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Dr. Joaquin Garcia, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Leonard continue to outrun the ball?

Leonard came up short against Dr. Joaquin Garcia in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, falling 3-0. Can Leonard avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
