Baseball Game Preview: Winona Christian Stars vs. North Delta Green Wave

The Winona Christian Stars will square off against the North Delta Green Wave at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Winona Christian has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while North Delta will arrive with seven straight wins.

Last Friday, Winona Christian came up short against Winston Academy and fell 4-1.

Meanwhile, North Delta posted their closest victory since March 10th on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Indianola Academy 5-3.

Owens Johnson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in February. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

Johnson wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Landon Hoshell, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

North Delta kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.

North Delta's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-6. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Winona Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
