Preview: Robertsdale Golden Bears vs. Mary G. Montgomery Vikings
Robertsdale is 0-3 against Mary G. Montgomery since August of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Robertsdale Golden Bears will head out on the road to face off against the Mary G. Montgomery Vikings at 7:00 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Robertsdale has struggled recently with nine defeats in a row, while Mary G. Montgomery will arrive with nine straight victories.
Robertsdale fell victim to Spanish Fort's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They took a serious blow against the Toros, falling 45-0. While losing is never fun, Robertsdale can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 216th, while Spanish Fort is ranked 20th).
Meanwhile, Mary G. Montgomery stacked a seventh blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They blew past Daphne, posting a 34-7 victory on the road. Mary G. Montgomery pushed the score to 34-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Daphne cut but never quite recovered from.
Jared Hollins was his usual excellent self, throwing for 222 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes, and also punching in a touchdown on the ground. James Bolton was in the mix as well, providing Mary G. Montgomery with two touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Mary G. Montgomery's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for seven sacks. It was a group effort, with three guys contributing.
Robertsdale's defeat was their ninth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-8. As for Mary G. Montgomery, their win bumped their record up to 9-0.
Robertsdale took a serious blow against Mary G. Montgomery in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, falling 42-0. Thankfully for Robertsdale, Keshun Johnson (who rushed for 88 yards on only 11 carries, and also picked up 35 receiving yards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
