Basketball Recap: Vista Grande Takes a Loss

Vista Grande was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were outmatched by the Catalina Foothills Falcons and fell 54-15. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 215th, while the Falcons are ranked 30th).

Vista Grande used a three-pronged attack on offense: Daniella Valenzuela, Sahmare'E Whatley, and Gabby Sepulveda posted three points each.

Clara Mae Hager continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Catalina Foothills, going 6 of 15 on her way to 17 points in addition to six assists and five steals. Another player making a difference was Kayanna Chief, who posted eight points and six steals.

Vista Grande's defeat dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Catalina Foothills, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.

Vista Grande has already played their next contest, a 45-13 loss against Maricopa on the 27th. As for Catalina Foothills, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 67-32 victory against Mountain View on the 27th.
